The cultivation of the vine in Chateauneuf-du-Pape is mentioned only in 1157, in the oldest writings found, Pope John XXII had brought with him winemakers from Cahors. They recovered in Chateauneuf old plots left by the Templars driven out by Philip the Fair and put in place the great foundations that allowed the development of the vineyards of Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

This great terroir is composed of rolled pebbles, limestone splinters and sand, a very large number of grape varieties are present in the appellation, this is due to the planting in force at the beginning of the century.
